BIODIESEL & WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

Biodiesel is a renewable, cleaner-burning alternative to traditional diesel fuel. It is produced from organic materials such as vegetable oils, animal fats or recycled cooking oils. Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions, promotes energy security and can be used in existing diesel engines without major modifications. Its use contributes to environmental sustainability and reduces dependence on fossil fuels.

Advantages of Biodiesel

Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Biodiesel produces lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional diesel fuel. The use of biodiesel helps mitigate climate change by decreasing carbon dioxide and other pollutants released during combustion.

Improved Air Quality

Biodiesel combustion results in lower levels of pollutants such as sulfur, particulate matter and hydrocarbons, contributing to improved air quality and reduced health risks associated with air pollution.

Biodegradability

Biodiesel is biodegradable, making it less harmful to the environment in the event of spills or accidents compared to conventional petroleum-based fuels.

Infrastructure Development

Increased adoption of biodiesel may drive infrastructure development, including the establishment of biodiesel production facilities, distribution networks, and refueling stations.

Diversification of Energy Sources

Biodiesel production diversifies the sources of transportation fuels, enhancing energy security and reducing vulnerability to disruptions in traditional oil supplies.

Reduced Reliance on Imported Oil

By promoting the use of domestically produced biodiesel, countries can reduce their dependence on imported oil and improve their energy self-sufficiency.

Compatible with Existing Infrastructure

Biodiesel can be used in existing diesel engines without significant modifications. It can also be blended with conventional diesel fuel, allowing for a gradual transition without major infrastructure changes.

Local Feedstocks

Biodiesel production often relies on locally sourced feedstocks, providing opportunities for domestic agricultural and industrial sectors. This can enhance economic development and reduce dependence on foreign oil.

TIPS FOR FRYING & CHECKING OIL

Step 1: Before filling your fryer, make sure it is completely free of all soap and detergent residue.

Step 2: Make sure you are prepping your food at the right temperature. If it is too cold, it will be soggy. If it is too hot, it will shorten the frying life of the oil.

Step 3: Ensure that frozen food is free of any ice crystals. Ice crystals may cause the oil to foam and cause splattering.

Step 4: Remove floating food particles with a skimmer to prevent carbon formation and oil discoloration.

Step 5: Top up your oil with fresh, clean oil supplied by Coastal Cooking Oils to extend the frying life of your oil.

Step 6: At the end of the day, filter your oil while it is still warm, not when it is hot.
